State Key Laboratory of Advanced Processing and Recycling of Non-ferrous Metals at Lanzhou University of Technology was approved to found by Ministry of Science and Technology of China in 2013, based on the Key Laboratory of Gansu Advanced Non-ferrous Metal Materials─State Key Laboratory Incubation Base. The Laboratory is the unique scientific research platform in Gansu Provincial Colleges and Universities.
The Laboratory mainly focuses on applied basic research of non-ferrous metals so as to serve the strategy of exploration of the west and strengthening the province via improving industry. Based on the advantages in Non-ferrous metal resources of Gansu province, it focuses on applied basic research and exploration of advanced processing and recycling of non-ferrous metals and takes developing itself into the research base, personnel training base and base for the integration of industry with university.
The Main Research Fields of the laboratory including:
1. New materials and advanced processing of Ni / Co based alloys;
2. Semisolid processing and surface modification of Light alloys;
3. Dissimilar metals joining;
4. Non-ferrous metals recycling.
Professor Zeng Pan of Tsinghua University serves as the present director of the laboratory. The Academic Board of the Laboratory consists of 12 famous experts including 2 academicians, among whom Prof. Lu Ke (academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and expert in material science) is the chairman of the Board and. The research team has 51 members including 21 professor and 25 associate professor. The public technology service team has 10members.
The Laboratory covers two provincial key disciplines, namely Material Science and Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering . In addition, it has a post doctoral research station and is authorized to offer doctorial degree and master degree in Material Science and Engineering, master degree in second-class disciplines such as Physical Chemistry of Metallurgy, Nonferrous Metallurgy and master of engineering in Material Engineering.
The Laboratory is the main undertaker of nonferrous metals application research projects and key projects in Gansu Province. In the latest 5 years, the laboratory has completed or undertaking about 120 key projects, including 8 the 973 Projects and 863 High Tech. Projects, 52 Projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, 4 major International Cooperation Projects, and has received 16 awards at the state, provincial and ministerial levels. More than 200 papers per year are published in domestic and international academic journals.
The laboratory has established a stable relations of cooperation about personnel training and research with numerous domestic universities and research institutions, such as Chinese Academy of Sciences, AVIC Beijing Institute of Aeronautical material, Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Northwestern Polytechnical University etc. It hold many large academic conferences link up with some major non-ferrous metallurgical enterprises, and engineering research center was established to solve hard technical problems of enterprises.
The laboratory makes use of its available sources to assist its international counterparts from USA, UK, France, Japan, Germany, Switzerland and Denmark, and exchange information in the various fields of research. Scientists from all over the world are welcomed to do research, visit, train, and cooperate in the research areas covered above. At present, it has established a extensive relations of cooperation with Moscow State University of Technology, The New Zealand government the Royal Academy of sciences, The Oakland university, Fraunhofer IWM, Technische Universität Berlin, University of Kentucky etc.
